- A UnionPay, Visa or Mastercard logo alone does not establish ChatGPT payment eligibility.
- Check purchase and issuer regions, then the payment methods offered at checkout.
Check eligibility before testing a card
OpenAI requires both the purchase location and the issuing bank to be in supported regions. Mainland China is not on the current supported-country list. A mainland-issued card that settles in dollars does not establish eligibility.
What the card network tells you
The network, settlement currency and issuing-bank location are different attributes. The official material reviewed does not disclose the merchant configuration for each card network. A payment processor supporting UnionPay does not prove that a particular ChatGPT checkout accepts it.
If the checkout offers no suitable method or the issuer region is ineligible, buying another card from that region does not resolve the issue. For an eligible card that fails, retain the error and ask the issuer to investigate.
Does store acceptance guarantee a subscription?
No. Apple and Google manage app-store billing separately from ChatGPT web checkout. Store region, product availability and account eligibility still matter. Adding store balance does not prove the desired plan can be purchased.
Record four things before paying
Record the plan, issuer region, billing provider and final amount. If already charged, check the original order and account before buying again. For Subly, confirm availability, fulfillment requirements, delivery to your account and refund terms; third-party payment does not change provider eligibility.
Common questions
Does enabling overseas payments guarantee success?
No. Bank settings do not change merchant acceptance or issuer location.
Should I buy a virtual card first?
Check eligibility and issuer terms first. Do not fund an unverified card service based on a success guarantee.
